17S1_Project 14 - CNC 3D printer
The students came out with an idea of a hybrid 3D printer and CNC machine. The idea is not novel and students have put in a significant amount of effort to design all the machine parts in detail. Given the limited time the students have for one semester, their effort is highly commendable but unfortunately, it is difficult to demonstrate that their design/system will work when all the parts are assembled due to the scale of the project. In addition, little technical analysis was also performed and demonstrated. The students scored poorly in feasibility. Given that such product can be common in the marketplace, there is also little room to extend this for commercialisation. This is another good example that shows the importance of choosing a product and how students may perform below expectations despite the effort they put into the design project.
