18S1_Project 06 - The Vortex Skimmer

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

The Vortex Skimmer is an automatic, surface-based pool cleaner that aims to use power from the existing pool pump to move around the pool and remove the leaves and other debris from the top of the pool. It consists of a floating plastic, cone-shaped device that is able to suck leaves through large inlets on the exterior of the device. The leaves then travel down into the cone and through the pool hose, depositing into the pool basket. In this fashion, the existing pump and basket setup is able to be used as is, with no modification needed. This reduces the cost of manufacture and also the cost to the consumer, which is one of the key milestones for this design.
