17S1_Project 13 - Beer cup holder

The students came out with the idea of a disposable beer tray. The design concept is simple and hence, the student group was able to produce a relatively good quality CAD design and drawings. According to the students, existing beer holder trays are unsafe as there are no through holes to support the bottles. By punching 4 holes into existing tray, the students argue that this design will prevent less spillage. Certain parts of the product were also designed to improve rigidity and resistance to bending. The reason why existing trays have no holes are obvious to the assessors – an additional step in the manufacturing forming process that requires additional costs to punch the holes. Given that the profit margin is already low for these trays, the profitability of this product is questionable. All in all, this is a good effort – design is simple, meaningful and addresses a problem.
